About

Photographer. Artist. Storyteller.

Emma Maggs is an Australian fine art photographer whose work explores the female form, water, freedom and our connection to the natural world.

Her signature underwater series, Wildfemmes, began in 2021 as a photographic exploration of women beneath the surface and has since evolved into a much broader conversation about womanhood, bodies, ageing, identity and the freedom that comes when we let go of how we think we are supposed to be seen.

For Emma, water is the greatest equaliser. It doesn’t judge our shape, our age, our ethnicity, our views or the stories we carry. It simply allows us to be — to move, soften, surrender and flow.

That philosophy runs through much of her work. From women suspended underwater along the Australian coastline to sun-drenched bodies and landscapes photographed across the Adriatic, Fiji and beyond, Emma is drawn to imagery that feels transportive, feminine, raw and quietly powerful.

Her work has been exhibited across multiple Australian exhibitions and has lived beyond traditional gallery walls. Emma was appointed QT Bondi’s inaugural Artist in Residence, with works from her ADRIATIC collection exhibited throughout the hotel for more than a year. Her fine art photography is also represented by Australian interiors destination Few & Far.

Before turning her lens increasingly toward fine art, Emma spent almost two decades working across photography, television, film and branded storytelling as a producer, director and creative. That background continues to inform the way she works today: every photograph begins with a story.

Emma lives and works on the NSW South Coast, on Dharawal Country, creating between the ocean and wherever the next story takes her.

The work is made to be lived with — a little wildness for your walls.
